As a special offer to our DKM mailing list we have a limited number of “Season Pass” tickets which are good for all three shows.

Dear Friends, this is Ken Casey from the Dropkick Murphys and let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to read this!

Over the years you have been great to us and been so helpful whenever we have asked for your help.

We have always tried to be diligent in making sure that our communications with you via this mailing list have been strictly for DKM related topics since thats what you signed up for. But for one instance I hope you don’t mind if we make an exception.

For those of you that do not know, I am involved in a great fund raising effort that is very important to me on the behalf of a dear friend of mine, Brendan Brady. Brendan is a 6 year old boy that needs our help and I am asking for that help now. Brendan’s parents Timmy and Dianne are life long friends of mine and there son Brendan is a vibrant six year old boy who has Cerebral Palsy, along with many other neurological disorders and a visual impairment that were sustained at birth. Although it has been a huge struggle Brendan has made some great progress through a number of different therapies that are very time consuming and expensive. At this time Brendan still does not walk on his own. He cannot communicate verbally and is in constant need for intense sensory input.

We are now in the final stretch for reaching our pre-event goal for the Brendan Brady Fund. Next Sat,May 17th is the event (www.brendanbrady.org) and we wanted to be at $50,000 prior to the actual evening. Our focus was to raise donations through 3 initial donation methods, Corporate Donations, Personal Donations and the Harley Raffle.

We are only $9,000 short of our goal! To everyone that has been help, great job!

I am asking you personally to help make a difference in Brendan’s Life and donate what ever amount you can ! Even a small amount will make an enormous difference to a great kid that needs so much to continue his development during his life.

Please consider making this small gift.

Steps to donate:

log onto www.brendanbrady.org
Click on Donate (if you wish to enter the Harley Davidson Raffle the cost is $50)
Use your credit card to donate through Paypal

Its that simple!

Thank you so much for your generosity and making a difference in Brendan’s life.

Sincerely,
Ken Casey
Dropkick Murphys

MCGREEVY’S 3RD BASE SALOON
“AMERICA’S FIRST SPORTS BAR” AND “THE BIRTHPLACE OF RED SOX NATION”

In 1894, “Nuf Ced” McGreevy opened his “3rd Base Saloon” in Boston. By the turn of the century, it was the place to be for ball players, politicians, gamblers, Tin-Pan Alley stars and die-hard fans known as the “Royal Rooters”. “Nuf Ced” was “King of the Rooters” and “3rd Base” was the center of the sporting and political worlds. It was America’s first baseball museum, with every inch of wall space decorated with historic pictures from Nuf Ced’s own collection and memorabilia he got from friends like Cy Young; the light fixtures were made from bats used by Red Sox stars; the painted portrait of McGreevy hanging above the bar looked down upon customers like Babe Ruth, boxing champ John L. Sullivan, “Royal Rooters” like Mayor “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald (JFK’s grand-dad) and “Sport” Sullivan—the Boston gambler infamous for masterminding the fix of the 1919 World Series.

McGreevy presided over all arguments between fans ending the battles by pounding his fist on the bar exclaiming, “Nuf-Ced”! McGreevy’s was America’s first documented sports-themed bar and “Nuf Ced” was the game’s most celebrated fan. “Nuf Ced” and his Rooters cheered on the Red Sox singing the fight song “Tessie” for their first World Series win in 1903 and continuing the tradition for world titles at Fenway in 1912,’15,’16 and ‘18. Looking back, there’s no doubt “McGreevy’s” was the birthplace of “Red Sox Nation”.

Today, history repeats itself in a new golden age for Red Sox fans. In 2004, the Dropkick Murphys revived the ghost of McGreevy by singing his name in their revival of the Sox fight song “Tessie”. Performing inside Fenway and bringing good luck with dramatic wins every time they played, the Dropkicks carried on the “Royal Rooter” tradition as they cheered on the Sox to their first world title since 1918.

During the playoffs of 2007, the story of “Nuf Ced” made it to the big screen in the award-winning film “Rooters: The Birth of Red Sox Nation”. It featured the Dropkicks 2004 story and a replica of “McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon” built as a movie set. Soon after the film’s premiere, the band helped the Sox win another World Series and Jonathan Papelbon danced a jig to the Dropkick’s new hit as they led the victory parade—just like the “Rooters” had done a century ago.

In 2008, Dropkick leader, Ken Casey, teamed-up with producer and historian Peter Nash to officially re-open “McGreevy’s 3rd Base” at 911 Boylston St. Eighty-eight years after Prohibition, “Nuf Ced” lives on in a replica of his original bar featuring a baseball museum dedicated to Boston’s history. The collection features originals and reproductions of McGreevy’s pictures on the walls. Nuf Ced’s own grand-niece can be found pouring drinks behind an original 19th century back bar…The new McGreevy’s even has on display the original glass portrait of the founder that greeted the likes of the Bambino and George M. Cohan. Like a modern day McGreevy, Ken Casey even got closer Papelbon to pitch in some game bats of Sox sluggers to make into new light fixtures for the bar. Back then and now, McGreevy’s is a place where players and fans go to blow off steam after a big win. It’s a place where every picture on the wall tells a story about Boston’s baseball legacy and the characters who defined an era. Babe Ruth, mobsters, big-shot bosses and the founding fathers of Red Sox Nation made the scene back in the day. Today it’s Papelbon, punk-rockers, Boston’s movers-and-shakers and a legion of Red Sox Rooters, young and old, who call “McGreevy’s 3rd Base”, their “last stop before home”- Nuf Ced

DROPKICK MURPHYS Re-open McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon

88 YEARS AFTER PROHIBITION CLOSED ITS DOORS, NUF CED MCGREEVY’S
3RD BASE SALOON REOPENS IN BOSTON AT 911 BOYLSTON ST.

Considered by many as the “Birthplace of Red Sox Nation” and “America’s 1st Sports-Bar and Baseball Museum”, McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon is finally back after its disappearance from the Boston scene in 1920. Back then its founder “Nuf Ced” McGreevy led his group of rabid Red Sox fans “the Royal Rooters” in song as they led their Red Sox to victory with the fight song “Tessie”.

In 2004 “a modern day McGreevy” emerged in Ken Casey the founder of the Boston band the Dropkick Murphys. A die-hard Sox fan, Casey and the Murphy’s revived McGreevy’s spirit with a modern version of “Tessie” that helped the Sox win their first World Championship in 86 years. And then of course after not being involved in 05 and 06 Casey’s good friend Jonathan Paplebon brought the band and their song “Shippin Up to Boston” to Fenway and another World Series title followed in 07.

Now in 2008, Casey and the Murphys have resurrected “McGreevy’s 3rd Base Saloon” in the heart of the city of Boston. The result is an unmatched Irish Pub and sports bar experience where any member of Red Sox Nation can take a step back in time to see where it all began and rub elbows with current Sox stars like Papelbon himself. Featuring an exact replica of McGreevy’s original barroom it features actual photographs and baseball treasures that hung on the walls of the original watering hole. Blending Boston’s baseball history from the past and present you can see ancient artifacts like the Sox 1st Fenway World Series Trophy from 1912. The lighting fixtures that hang from the ceiling are even made from game used bats of past and present Red Sox stars.

McGreevy’s is the place to be for great food and drink and the ultimate place to see any sporting event. McGreevy’s even features Nuf Ced’s own geat-grand neice pouring pints from behind the bar as she follows in the footsteps of the Red Sox Nation founder.

McGreevy’s original 3rd Base Saloon was known for decades as the place to be for Red Sox players and fans, and with the revival of the historic bar in 2008 that tradition continues where it left off in 1920.

Come join us for a special one day sneak peak on Marathon Monday (the race goes right by us) after which we will close for a few weeks to finish renovations followed by a May GRAND opening!
